GERING – The 25th Annual Harvest Festival was held at the Legacy of the Plains Museum in Gering Sept. 18-19. Attendees were treated to a variety of activities and demonstrations.

This year’s featured crop was dry edible beans. Researchers from the Panhandle Research and Extension Center gave a presentation and were on hand to answer questions throughout the event. During the demonstration, several different methods of harvesting dry beans were featured. 

Attendees also had the opportunity to pick their own potatoes in the potato patch. Wagon rides were a highlight of the event along with a horse, equipment, and tractor parade. A hay bale fort, a pedal tractor course, and a barrel train ride were also among the outdoor activities. The museum’s herd of longhorn cattle was also on hand for the event.

The exhibit hall, a bake sale, a quilt raffle, live music, and strawberry DNA extraction were among the indoor activities. A church service was also held on Sept. 19 at 9 a.m.
