Sometimes at the beginning of a month I like to look up what things that month is celebrating. Every month has some really goofy things to celebrate, but June has some of the weirdest.
For instance, did you know that June is Naked Bike Ride month? According to the Internet, “People ride bikes naked to celebrate cycling and the human body.” It also demonstrates the “vulnerability of cyclists on the road and is a protest against the car culture.”
Okay, it’s one thing to celebrate cycling and the human body, and cyclists on the road are rather vulnerable, especially if they’re naked. But “protest against the car culture?” Isn’t that rather counter-productive? If the poor, vulnerable, naked cyclist happens to get hurt, what will come to pick him up? An ambulance. How will the doctors and nurses get to the hospital to patch him up? In cars. Seems to me, like many of those activist protesters, they only protest things until they need them.
Another thing June celebrates is National Turkey Lover’s month. This seems odd. Shouldn’t turkey lover’s month be in November when everybody is eating turkey? Or maybe they mean people who actually love the turkeys. Maybe this is for people who spoil and pamper them and never let them hear the word “drumstick.”
