GERING, Neb. – There’ll be ghoulies and ghosties and things in the night that go bump across the state next month as Nebraska State Parks hosts a series of fun, Halloween-themed events.
The Wildcat Hills State Recreation Area will present Howl in the Hills Night Hike on Saturday, Oct. 14. Set to kick off at 7 p.m., the event will introduce hikers to all the creatures that “go bump in the night”.
Explore the various nocturnal creatures that call the Wildcat Hills region home on this one-half mile hike. Participants are urged to bring a flashlight, hiking shoes and a sense of adventure, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks website, outdoornebraska.gov.
Pre-registration for the hike is requested by Oct. 6 by calling (308) 436-3777. Howl in the Hills is part of the ongoing series of programs hosted on the second Saturday of the month.
Other events around the state during October include:
• Indian Cave State Park near Shubert, Neb., is hosting its 22nd annual Haunted Hollow Hayrack Ride. Dates are Oct. 14, Oct. 20-21 and Oct. 27-28.
• The 30th annual Pumpkin Carvers Event is set for Oct. 21 at Calamus State Recreation Area at Burwell, Neb.
• Arbor Lodge State Historical Park in Nebraska City, Neb., will host a Vintage Halloween celebration two weekends, Oct. 21-22 and Oct. 28-29.
