Nutty observances

Sometimes it seems like the whole world has just gone off the rails. At the beginning of every month it’s fun to see what is being celebrated that month. What kinds of things are we supposed to pay attention to, or be aware of? This is very important, because many people simply don’t have enough to pay attention to. They don’t have nearly enough things in their lives to be aware of.
Now understand that some of these observances are very noble, indeed. National Human Trafficking month (January) and Childhood Cancer Awareness month (September) are important for raising awareness so that maybe someday there will be a cure for them.
But for the most part, these observances are just plain nutty. For instance, in December we are supposed to celebrate Red Apple Day, Bathtub Party Day, Noodle Ring Day and Ding-a-ling Day. What the heck is a Noodle Ring anyway?

But just as I was about to go off on a good rant about crazy people and their ridiculous days, I thought about the coming month. Yes, it’s a month of peace and goodwill and giving and love, but it can also be one heck of a stressful month. You have ten thousand extra things to do and zero extra time to do them.
So, in the midst of all the hurrying and scurrying to get ready for Christmas, if you happen to look up and see that you are smack in the middle of National Chocolate Covered Anything Day (Dec. 15), what are you going to do? Eat chocolate. And every woman knows chocolate is a super food which has magical powers. So, although National Chocolate Covered Anything Day may sound silly, celebrating it may lead to a calmer month.
There are other observations that might not be as important as chocolate, but they might make you smile, and that’s always a good thing. There’s Lemon Cupcake Day, Maple Syrup Day, Crossword Puzzle Day and even Bah Humbug Day.
So, while you’re trying to get all your regular stuff done, plus all your extra stuff done, take a minute and do one more thing…check out the crazy, nutty things that they celebrate in December. And then be glad you don’t have to actually celebrate this stuff.
