I am an 'ist'

Posted

When you read the news nowadays you start to think that everybody in the world is some sort of “ist.” If you hate other races, you’re a racist, if you hate women, you’re a misogynist, if you hate broccoli, you’re a broccoli-ist. Okay, I made that up, but I’m sure they’ll get to it eventually.

Well, I’m here to say that I’m not a racist. But I am a STUPID-IST and it’s time I came out and admitted it. But maybe you are too!

A “stupid-ist” is someone who hates arrogant idiots. I don’t mean people who have low IQ’s, I mean people who insist on doing bad things over and over and over. And I don’t have a problem if those people only effect their own lives, but I hate it when they keep doing stupid things that mess up other people’s lives, like politicians who pass really bad laws when they don’t have a clue…or don’t care…what those laws will do. Or famous people who insist on telling you how to live your life when they can’t even handle their own. Yeah I admit it…I am a stupid-ist.

I’m also a “Rude-ist.” I hate rude behavior. Everybody has a bad day now and then when they might snap at someone. I’m talking about people who are rude to everyone day after day. There’s no excuse for that! Occasionally, if you point out their bad behavior they will shape up. But thoroughly rude people should be shipped off to Timbuktu.

I’m also an “excuse-ist.” Don’t you just hate it when something goes wrong and the person responsible for it starts making excuses? If they would just say, “I’m sorry, I messed up and I’ll try to fix it,” they would be a better person. But an excuser will do backflips to blame the problem on the weather, the government, an animal, their spouse, their boss, their employee, or you. You have to hand it to them; excusers can get very creative. But I am also an “excuse-ist.”

So, what do you think? Are you a Stupid-ist? A Rude-ist? An Excuse-Ist? Or are these people just regular run-of-the-mill weeds in the garden of life? After all, there’s not much we can do about them, most of the time you just have to put up with them.

But maybe we don’t need to have labels. Maybe we aren’t really “ists” at all. Maybe we are just regular people trying to do our best in life and wanting other people to do that too.

Does that make us really, really weird?
