TORRINGTON – Torrington/Lingle FFA chapter had a great spring, participating in numerous activities including the Wyoming FFA Convention, Ag Expo, Kindergarten field trip in Torrington and the first-grade field trip in Lingle.
The highlight of our spring was undoubtedly State Convention. The chapter was successful in several areas.
To start things off, state degree recipients included Jaden McDuffie, Rhett Greenwald, Bailey Surratt, Landen Fuller and Cameron Juma. Rhett was also the state star in Ag Placement, which is an achievement that only few members of the FFA ever experience.
The chapter also saw success in the Career Development Event portion of the Convention. The Agronomy team of Casey Britton, Quentin Meyer, Trace English, and Austin Fox was reserve champion. Quentin was the reserve champion overall. Rhett Greenwald was the third high individual in the Employment Skills event.
A group of freshmen on the Greenhand Quiz Bowl team also received the honor of walking across stage and being fourth place overall. The team consisted of Michaela Moorehouse, Josi Rapp, Callie Fritzler, and Kaylie Rafferty.
The Farm Business Management team of Bailey Surratt, Landen Fuller, Robert Cates and Cora Frederick placed fifth at state. Jared Spencer was also named Wyoming FFA Second Vice President.
Landen Fuller received scholarships from the Wyoming FFA Foundation the National FFA Organization and the Monsanto Growing Americas Communities program.
The Torrington/Lingle FFA chapter also accomplished projects in the community, including helping with the Ag Expo. During the Ag Expo, fourth-grade classes from Goshen County and Guernsey participated in multiple activities. The fourth graders learned about different aspects of agriculture and did multiple hands on activities. The Torrington kindergarteners and Lingle-Fort Laramie first graders had a mini Ag Expo of their own, where they did many hands-on activities and got to learn about different animals and agricultural doings.
Our final event of the year was our FFA banquet, with a few special guests including state officers and school board members. A new roster of officers was installed: Quentin Meyer as President, Cora Frederick as Lingle Vice President, Paige Miller as Torrington Vice President, Robert Cates as Treasurer, Cade Schwartzkopf as Parliamentarian, Calista Dugger as Reporter, Tyler Juma as Sentinel, and Jesse Lay as Secretary.
Also, during the banquet, Calista Dugger was named Star Greenhand and Rhett Greenwald was announced as the Torrington/Lingle FFA Member of the Year.
During the summer months, the chapter will have a lemonade stand at the Goshen County Fair, and numerous members including Paige Miller, Quentin Meyer, Robert Cates, Mason Weis, Tanor Pickinpaugh, Ryan Walson, and Carly Mechem will be taking part in horse and livestock shows throughout the season. Other members will be hard at work with their own Supervised Agriculture Projects which involve several different areas of agriculture. We look forward to the upcoming year of being diligent in our work and having fun while at it; all while following the FFA.
