GERING, Neb. – Potatoes will be the featured crop at the 21st annual Harvest Festival at the Legacy of the Plains Museum near Gering. The two-day event is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 16 – 17, on the Old Oregon Trail, just east of the Scotts Bluff National Monument.
Visitors may pick their own potatoes and watch vintage demonstrations of hand, horse and tractor equipment as they plant, harvest and process potatoes. The demonstrations will be held morning and afternoon
both days.

A parade will be held each afternoon and guest equipment is welcome. Many children’s events will be available, including a hay bale fort, a pedal tractor course, and wagon and barrel train rides. The Wiedeman Farmstead will be open, along with live farm animals on display.
The Harvest Festival entrance fee will be $5 per person, good for both days. Members and volunteers enter free. Hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, and 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Sunday.
On Friday, Sept. 15, there will be a Lockwood Company reunion along with vintage Lockwood film and other media related to the potato industry. The Friday event, set from 1 – 5 p.m.,
is free.
