GERING, Neb. – The Corporation for National and Community Service and the Community Action Partnership of Western Nebraska invite the public to come and celebrate with the CNCS Mayor’s Day of Recognition of National Service, highlighting the Foster Grandparent Program’s 45 years of service to schools helping children from pre-school to the eighth grade.
The celebration will be 1 to 3 p.m. April 4 at the Northfield’s Vista dining room at 2460 Five Rocks Road in Gering.
Special guests will include Gering Mayor Tony Kaufman Terrytown Mayor Kent Greenwalt; and Randy Meininger, mayor of Scottsbluff. The community leaders will present proclamations in support of the Foster Grandparent volunteers.
More than 76 Foster Grandparents serve in the program ranging in ages from 55 to 89, with some serving 20 years or more.
