SCOTTS BLUFF COUNTY – Ever wonder how sugar beets become sugar? Here’s your chance to find out with the annual Sugar Tour, hosted by the AgriBusiness Committee of the Scottsbluff-Gering United Chamber of Commerce.
Sugar Tour this year is scheduled for 3:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 4. Limited tickets, at $30 each, are available. Reservations should be made by calling the Chamber office at (308) 632-2133 or by emailing [email protected]
Participants must be 18 years of age or older. Walking and climbing stairs are involved in the tour of the Western Sugar factory in Scottsbluff, so participants are encouraged to wear flat-heeled, closed-toe shoes.
No jewelry of any kind – including earrings, necklaces, rings or watches – are allowed. Also, participants may not wear dresses or shorts.
The annual Sugar Tour raises money for scholarship awarded to eligible students pursuing careers in agriculture-related businesses. In addition to the walking tour of the plant, the event includes an educational presentation and dinner.
