A new kind of cool

I just read a very interesting article about the new rage in pickups.  It seems Ram has introduced pickups in colors to match your tractors!  That’s right, you can now order a brand new Ram pickup in Case-IH Red or New Holland Blue!   So now, if you accidentally sideswipe your Red Case-IH combine with your Red Case-IH pickup, nobody will notice!

Of course, the same company that owns Case-IH and New Holland is the one who owns Ram pickups, so it was probably only a matter of time.  And for that matter, it’s probably only a matter of time before we see John Deere Green pickups running around, too.  Of course I saw one of those once, but it was spray painted with a can of JD touch-up paint.  It didn’t look too good.  I’ll bet if John Deere decides to offer JD green pickups, it will look a little more professional.

But this whole thing brings up a dilemma for those of us who are not quite on the cutting edge of cool.  What happens if you have Blue AND Red tractors? Or what happens if you have a Red combine and a Green header?    Or what happens if you LOVE old Case tractors, which were mostly yellow/orange?  Are they going to come up with a “classic Case” paint job?   It seems to me that a yellow/orange paint job would look old and faded, no matter how new the pickup was.

What they ought to do is offer pickups that have a little of everything on them, such as a Red cab, Green hood and Blue fenders.  That way you could trade your pickup without having to trade in your combine, tractors and baler!  You could also drive in any parade in the country and look like you belong there.

But for those of you who like to stay on the cutting edge of cool, go ahead and get a pickup to match your equipment!  It would be very forward thinking, very progressive and very fashionable!  Just don’t be disappointed if your friends are not impressed.  They’ll probably just think you sideswiped your combine.
